You’ve no doubt heard the phrase “Bats in the Belfry”.  But have you ever heard of a bat  in the washing machine?  After being away for about 5 days, I went to the basement to do some laundry. To my shock, I discovered a bat hanging inside the washer.  (Maybe it was in search of water.) With a very loud yell, I called in the reinforcements (Valerie) to catch the sleeping creature.

Wrapped in a towel, the bat was taken outside for a photo op, during which it would      occasionally open its eyes and then drop off to sleep again.  Once the bat was identified,     I placed the towel and the still sleeping bat on a branch in the woods.  Within a short     period of time the bat had left.  I now make sure that I close the lid on the washing machine when it is not in use.
